Message from NYS Education Department Monday Evening: The State Education Department understands that Nassau County Supreme Court has ruled that the Department of Health exceeded its authority in enacting the mask regulation, 10 NYCRR 2.60, in Demetriou et al. v. New York State Dep’t of Health et al. This regulation is the subject of conflicting decisions, insofar as Albany County Supreme Court recently upheld the regulation in Massapequa UFSD et al. v. Hochul, et al. It is SED’s understanding that the Department of Health will appeal the Nassau County Supreme Court decision, which will result in an automatic stay that will unambiguously restore the mask rule until such time as an appellate court issues a further ruling. Therefore, schools must continue to follow the mask rule. Thank you for your patience as we continue to work through the expected and unexpected daily/weekly changes we are dealing with. For now, masks are still mandated for everyone in school.

There will be a Covid-19 Vaccination Clinic (Pfizer) on Monday, November 15th from 1:00-4:00 pm in the St. Lawrence Central Elementary School Gym. Anyone with students ages 5-11 years of age are eligible for this vaccine. Please know there are only 54 spots open for vaccinations so if you truly want the vaccination, please register ASAP. If we have a large demand and our 54 slots fill up quickly, we may be able to get an additional vaccinator to come and do more this is up to Public Health. At the younger age levels, we are encouraging a parent/guardian to attend with the student if possible, but it is NOT a requirement. Adolescents (5-11 years old) attending without a parent will need to have a written consent form filled out by a parent or guardian to be vaccinated. This form and more information about the clinic can be found at: https://apps2.health.ny.gov/doh2/applinks/cdmspr/2/counties?OpID=CFE55C6569DF0282E0530A6C7C15BA0F Please go to the link and register for a time, if you wish.

The music department at SLC will present All Together Now: A Global Musical Theater Celebration on November 12 and 13 at 7 pm. This is a musical revue featuring songs from a variety of musicals. The students have worked together to prepare a musical theater treat for our community. We will be livestreaming our event, and an access code can be purchased at this website: https://www.showtix4u.com/event-details/58212 You will need one access code per device. The cost is $8, and each night will be somewhat different, so feel free to purchase a code for each night! We have 26 students in grade 8-12 involved, and we sincerely appreciate your support. The students will be able to present to a small live audience composed of family members. All others will need to participate via the livestream. Thank you, and we hope you enjoy the show!

SLC Elementary Reminder: Students are encouraged to wear their costumes to school tomorrow. Though we are not bringing families in for a parade this year, we will be sharing a video virtually. I am excited to share that we are looking at options for creating more opportunities to bring our families into school in the near future, starting with parent-teacher conferences. More information will come on this soon. Also, don’t forget that tomorrow will be a 12:30 dismissal for our elementary students.
