Governor Cuomo will be making a decision about schools reopening the first week of August. We received guidance from both the NYS Department of Health and NYS Education Department this past week. These guidelines outline the parameters under which we will be required to operate in order to maintain a safe environment for students and staff.
The guidelines indicate that we must maintain 6ft social distancing to the best of our abilities and require the continuous wearing of masks where this can not be accomplished. This will be a challenge as limitations would be 10-12 students per classroom. The amount of space needed and number of staff further complicate this matter. We may also need to limit the number of students in attendance at a given time. Students riding buses will have to wear masks at all times and may not maintain social distancing.
It is very important to us that we create the best educational setting possible for our children while following the required NYS guidelines and keeping them safe. We have assessed the information shared on our ThoughtExchange and have been developing different scenarios. We must develop plans for remote learning, in person learning, and a hybrid combination of both. In order to help us with planning please complete this very short parent survey for each of your children attending St. Lawrence Central by Friday July 24th.
