NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that a public hearing of the qualified voters of the Brasher Falls Central School District, St. Lawrence County, Brasher Falls, New York, will he held in the Middle/High School Library in said District on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 6:00 PM prevailing time, for the presentation of the proposed 2019-2020 school budget. The proposed budget will be available for district residents to review beginning on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 in the District Office from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, excepting Saturday, Sunday or a Holiday, in the High School Building.
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that the annual budget vote and election of the qualified voters of the Brasher Falls Central School District, St. Lawrence County, New York, will he held in the Middle School Gym of the Middle/High School Building in said District on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, between the hours of 12PM and 8PM, prevailing time, at which time the polls will be opened to vote; in addition to the election of candidates to the Board of Education, voting will be by paper ballot upon the following items:
- To adopt the annual budget for the School District for the fiscal year 2019-2020 and to authorize the requisite portion thereof to be raised by taxation on the taxable property of the District.
- Shall the Board of Education of the Brasher Falls Central School District be authorized to: (a) acquire three (3) school buses, at a maximum aggregate cost of approximately $356,580; (b) expend such sum for such purpose; (c) levy the necessary tax therefore, to be levied and collected in annual installments in such years and in such amounts as may be determined by the Board of Education taking into account state aid and trade-in value and rebates; and (d) in anticipation of the collection of such tax, issue bonds, notes and/or installment purchase contracts of the District at one time or from time to time in the principal amount not to exceed $308,580, and levy a tax to pay the interest on said obligations when due.
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that petitions for nominating candidates for the office of member of the Board of Education must be filed in the District Clerk’s Office between the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM no later than April 22, 2019. Each petition must be directed to the District Clerk, be signed by at least 25 qualified voters of the District, must state the residence of each signer, and must state the name and residence of the candidate.
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that three vacancies on the Board of Education are to be filled as follows: (a) two seats on the Board of Education are each for a five year term commencing July 1, 2019 and concluding on June 30, 2024, arising from the expiration of the terms of Nereida Diaz-Fuentes and Robert Dow; and (b) one seat on the Board of Education is for a partial term of three years, one month, eight days, commencing May 22, 2019 and concluding on June 30, 2022, to succeed the term of Nance Arquiett.
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that applications for absentee ballots will be obtainable between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM Monday through Friday, except holidays, from the District Clerk. A list of persons to whom absentee ballots are issued will be available for inspection to qualified voters of the District in the Office of the District Clerk on and after May 14, 2019, between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM on weekdays until the day of the election, and shall also be posted at the polling place at the election of members of the Board of Education.
